Epidemiological and preventive research |
 Research on the determinants and dynamics of HIV infection. Planning, development and prevention and control strategies including field based prevention & intervention research to reduce transmission of HIV. |

| Research on behavioral patterns associated with HIV , social relevance and impact of the infection on society. Provision of counseling services. |

| Characterization of HIV, studies on genetic diversity of Indian strains and immune response to HIV. Research on candidate vaccines, diagnostics and drugs. |
