Research Experience:
I started my career in 1987 as junior Research Fellow in National Institute of Virology and acquired various research tools to work on HIV/AIDS on different aspects. I subsequently transferred to National AIDS Research Institute and continued to work on both research, monitoring and diagnostic activities in the field of HIV. The experience gained and the activities conducted over the last 20 years are summarized below. Some of the activities are still continued.
* Ph.D. project: Studies on Immunological parameters in HIV seropositives.
* Collaborative study on in vitro anti-HIV activity: In vitro inhibition of HIV infection by seminal plasmin, a collaborative work with the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, India
* Evaluation of HIV commercially available HIV diagnostic kits
* Standardization of the method of blood collection on filter paper for HIV serological assays.
* Setting up the immunology laboratory at NARI
1) standardization of the various immunological techniques such as Enzyme Linked Immuno Spot Assay (ELISPOT), Development of B cell line, Chromium release assay, flow cytometry etc
* Monitoring External proficiency assessment of the laboratories linked with National AIDS Control Organization for HIV serology (a member of a team of national reference laboratory at NARI for HIV serology)
1)Development of training modules
2)Conduct training
3)Documentation
* Setting up of the immunogenicity laboratory for assessment of candidate HIV vaccine in human clinical trial
1) Monitoring the setting up and standardization of various techniques like ELISPOT assay for immunogenicity assessment.
2)Preparation of the laboratory for Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) accreditation
c) Preparation of the laboratory for Good Clinical Laboratory Practices (GCLP) accreditation
* Monitoring External proficiency assessment of the laboratories linked with National AIDS Control Organization for CD4 count estimation
1) Development of network of the laboratories
2) Development of training module and SOPs
3) Provide trouble shooting to the laboratories with unsatisfactory performance
* Validation of new methodologies and reagents for CD4 count estimation
* Member of consortium for quality testing for HIV, HBV and HCV
1) Development of the consortium with NACO and other participating institutes,
2) Development of SOPs for consortium
3) Generation of panels.
* Worked for accreditation of Immunology laboratory from National Accreditation Board for Laboratories (NABL) under ISO 15979
* Development of laboratory guidelines ( a team member)
1) For World Health Organization: Laboratory guidelines for diagnosis of HIV diagnosis and monitoring of antiretroviral treatment for countries of South East region and Laboratory guidelines for CD4 count estimation
2) For NACO, National guideline for CD4 count estimation
