NARI and RTIA:

NARI has an RTI cell with Dr RS Paranjape, director NARI as the Appellant Authority and Dr Nita Mawar, Scientist F as the CPIO. She has attended a training related to RTIA at Banglore in March 2006. This RTI Unit NARI responds to RTI applications as and when they come.

2. Fogarty Fellowship for Summer Epidemiology Course, JHU, Baltimore, USA June-Juy1993.

3. Fellowship for Ethical issues in International Health Research:Harvard University-Natal University at Durban, SA, July 2000.

4. Post Doctoral Scholarship at Yale University from February-May 2003 at Centre for Inter-disciplinary Research & School of Public Health, YU, USA.

5. Three scholarships to make oral presentations at three conferences, two by WHO and one by the organizers:

a. August 1994 for X International AIDS Conference at Yokohama,Japan: WHO.
b. Oct. 1995 at 4th International AIDS Asia & Pacific at Chiang Mai, Thailand: Conference organizers.

  Research Experience:

1. National Institute of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi From July 2006,November 1984 except Sept 1979 to Aug 1982: Involved in WHO, ICMR and Min of Health research projects on women's fertility, health, health policy research,FP spacing methods used by women, Illegal abortion practices etc. Also pursued my PhD at this Institute on on 'Patterns and perception of fertility and family planning in women, Rajasthan' Prepared research reports, research documents for National level discussions.

2.Operation Research Group, New Delhi:Was involved in an ILO study on Status of Women and demographic change that involved time an ethnographic study that used fortnightly data collection, qualitative data through participant observation, key informant interviews, in depth-interviews, regular meetings and reporting and presentation etc.

3. Regional Medical Research Centre (ICMR), Jabalpur (Nov,1984-Jan.1991):Tribal health problems with focus on treatment seeking behavior womens health status of women and decision making young womens health & development etc. Five reports prepared.

4. National Institute of Virology (ICMR)Pune (Feb.1991-Oct.1992) and National AIDS Research Institute (ICMR)Pune (Oct 1992 to present):
Social and behavioral aspects of HIV AIDS in groups with risky behaviours eg Jail inmates drug users Sexworkers, STD patients general population like the tribal rural and urban population women youth and the HIV infected patients attending the clinic.

These studies had intra and extra mural funding from NACO, Min HRD, and Yale University, USA. I was the PI in all these studies.

As an ICMR Task force on Microbicides, was Team Coordinator and involved in developing a research proposal on Social and behavioral aspects of community preparedness for improving utilization of HIV prevention technologies.

The ICMR-NARI-PATH collaborative study on Assessing the introduction of HPV vaccine in India: Part I Formative study funded by PATH in two states on India where I was the PI at NARI for this study is now completed. The report is presented.
